MOSAIC prototype construction report: 5th tower installed

After a few months of break due to the COVID-19 pandemia, the MOSAIC prototype construction has restarted during June 2020 in Sanguesa (CENER). As you can see from the picture, all five towers have been successfully erected. At the moment, work onsite is focused on the tracking system and related support cables. In the coming months, we will update the onsite construction development. Stay tuned!

MOSAIC projects results published in ENERGIES and Helioscsp

Two important dissemination activities have been finalized in the last months: the peer-reviewed paper “Low-Cost Solar Electricity Using Stationary Solar Fields; Technology Potential and Practical Implementation Challenges to Be Overcome. Outcomes from H2020 MOSAIC Project” has been published in February 2020 in ENERGIES to present the potentialities of the Low-Cost Solar Electricity Using Stationary Solar Fields. And an important article “Outcomes from H2020 MOSAIC Project” has been published in the Helioscop specialized online magazine. More news related to MOSAIC results will come soon so stay tuned!

MOSAIC at the SolarPaces2019 Conference

Also this year, MOSAIC Consortium presence was relevant in the SolarPaces2019 conference in Daegu, South Korea. Dissemination Leader Fabrizio Perrotta was present at the CSP H2020 Projects booth where the MOSAIC 3D Concept video was presented. Furthermore, the oral presentation Design and Analysis of a Helical Receiver for Solar Bowl Systems was presented during the Emerging Concepts plenary session by Mattia Cagnoli (POLITO) and Coordinator Cristobal Villasante explained the MOSAIC concept to many interested participants at the poster session. We are looking forward to share the final project results next year in SolarPaces2020!

MOSAIC Second Review Meeting Finalised

MOSAIC second review meeting was held on 4th and 5th September 2019 at CENER premises in Sarriguren (Spain). The first day was dedicated to the preparation of all the presentations for the official Review meeting. The second day was dedicated to the official Review meeting with MOSAIC Project officer Bernardo Abello, where the Consortium presented the status of the project. Furthermore, we visited in the afternoon the Sangüesa CENER facilities where the excavation to install the MOSAIC prototype has been started. Our thanks go to CENER for the excellent meeting organisation and for the preparation of this successful meeting!

MOSAIC Concept at the workshop MSLOOP 2.0: Key element for the new solar thermal energy plants

Coordinator Cristobal Villasante will present MOSAIC Concept at the MSLOOP workshop at the “MSLOOP 2.0: Key element for the new solar thermal energy plants” scheduled for the 9th July 2019 in Madrid. MOSAIC will have the possibility to share their experience with other sister projects in line with the clustering activities developed in the H2020 CSP clustering framework. More information about the workshop are available here.

MOSAIC at Sustainable Places 2019 conference

MOSAIC consortium will participate at the Next generation of Concentrated Solar Power technologies workshop in the framework of the Sustainable Places 2019 conference. Fabrizio Perrotta (AMIRES Project and Product manager) will present the innovative MOSAIC Fixed hemispherical semi-Fresnel concentrators concept plant to the clustering workshop organised by sister project NEXTOWER. Programme of workshop is available here.

MOSAIC EAB and M24 meeting

MOSAIC External Advisory Board and M24 meeting have been held in Prague at the Technology Center on 6th, 7th and 8th of November 2018. The first day was dedicated to the EAB meeting with the EAB Members, Mr. Juan Ignacio Burgaleta (Independent consultant, ex SENER), Marcel Bial (ESTELA), Jesús Fernández (PSA-CIEMAT), Gilles Guigan (Auroville). EAB members had the chance to be updated on the project status and they provided excellent recommendations in person and through a specific questionnaire. The second day was dedicated to the technical WPs parallel sessions and the presentation to their solutions. The third day was dedicated to the prototype implementation, administrative, dissemination and exploitation activities. The next project meeting will be hosted by Aalborg CSP in Denmark at the beginning of April 2019.

MOSAIC concept presented at SolarPaces2018

Coordinator Cristobal Villasante presented the MOSAIC concept at the SolarPaces2018, through the oral presentation “MOSAIC, a new CSP plant concept for the highest concentration ratios at the lowest cost” (IK4-TEKNIKER and CENER) in the Central Receivers System session. A large and interested audience showed their interest and curiosity for the concept. Furthermore, the poster “Analysis of convective heat losses for a solar bowl helical receiver” from POLITO, CENER, and IK4-TEKNIKER, has been published in the poster session of the conference. Both publications will become the official reference material course of MOSAIC, which will be updated during the project lifespan.
